Albert Robert Dicks was born February 8, 1931, the son of Roscoe & Elsie Dicks, at the family farm in Diamond Lake Township near Spirit Lake, Iowa. He was baptized at his grandparents? home in 1942. He graduated from the Lakefield High School. In 1951, Albert "Lefty" served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in August of 1953. He worked for two years in the oil fields of North Dakota. Lefty was united in marriage to Frances Fay Ray at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Jackson, Minnesota. The young couple later moved to Montevideo where Lefty worked as a drag line operator. Following his retirement he worked as a janitor for the Post Office and Klein Bank. He enjoyed fishing and spending time at Lake Miltona with his beloved wife of 56 years. He was active with the Masons and the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed hunting. He loved kids and to tease his friends and had an infectious laugh. He was a man that couldn't say no and would help anyone in need. Lefty passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2012, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital. He was 81 years of age. He is survived by his three sisters: Eleanor Dicks of Luverne; Donna Dinan of San Diego, California and Josephine Schweers of Brainerd; sisters-in-law Anita Elness of Windom and Annie Gilmore Dicks of Roseville and brother-in-law Don Ray of Aurora; and many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Frances of 56 years, three brothers: Victor, Theodore and Donald; sister Dorothy Leuth; brothers-in-law Bob Leuth and Russell Elness, sisters-in-law Pat Dicks, Janice Ray and Delores Hamann Dicks and niece Lisa Ray.
