Ada was born November 12, 1916 to Adam and Henrietta Punt in Maurice, Iowa. She was the youngest of 12 children and grew up on the farm. During her high school years her family moved from the farm to Sioux Center, Iowa. She enjoyed the academics of school and found this to be her favorite part of school. Ada played the piano and was also involved in many musical groups; including solo work, mixed chorus, mixed sextet and the Glee Club. In addition, she participated in class plays and declamatory contests. After graduation from high school, Ada completed her teaching certification and taught country school.Ada married John L. Vermeer on February 9, 1938. John and Ada pursued a life of farming together living on two farms in Iowa and then moved to Minnesota where they purchased a farm near Montevideo, Minnesota. Together they had seven children, six of which were born in Iowa and the last in Minnesota. They needed a large family to complete all the chores on the farm and of course for their enjoyment. In 1976 they retired from the farm and moved into Montevideo where they lived until 1989 when they moved to Loveland, CO where several of their children resided. John passed away in 1990 and Ada continued to live in her home in Loveland, CO. In January of 2007 she moved to the Loveland Good Samaritan Village where she resided until her death.John and Ada were very active in their church. Ada taught Sunday school, Catechism, directed the adult choir, and played organ and piano as she was needed. John and Ada loved music and often sang together at church and other events. They passed their love of music to their children and one of the family highlights was the time they spent singing together. They were also involved in Gideon's International for many years. This was a vital part of their lives as they distributed bibles to schools, lodging and hospital facilities. Ada remained an Honorary Auxiliary member to her passing. When John was still alive, they spent the winter months in California. While there, they spent many hours with family and friends as they participated in church events, played golf and cards and of course visiting and enjoying their retirement years together. Ada loved to read and as she grew older, she often times spent hours reading. She participated in many of the activities at Good Samaritan, but her favorite times were when her children came to visit, which they did many times a week and she especially enjoyed the Sunday afternoon tea time! Ada lived a long, healthy and full life for 93 years. She was a great woman of God and her faith reflected a life of prayer and devotion to both God and her family. During the last few years, she often experienced bouts of pneumonia which would send her to the hospital for a few days. She would recover and return to her room at Good Samaritan. On Friday evening she became very ill after taking a fall and passed away within hours of arriving at the emergency room.
