William “Bill” Hobbs, 72, of Montevideo, passed away on hospice at his home, Sunday, June 18, 2023, with family at his side. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 22nd from 5 to 7 pm at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Montevideo. A private family memorial service will be held on Friday.
William Jay Hobbs was born December 6, 1950, in Grafton, North Dakota, the son of Bickford and Evangeline (Disselbret) Hobbs. He was baptized on December 23, 1951, at St. Peters Church in Park River, North Dakota and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church. Bill graduated from high school on May 24, 1968 from Walsh County Agricultural and Training School in Park River, North Dakota. He furthered his education at North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota. Bill served his country in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany for a time and was honorably discharged in March of 1972.
Bill was united in marriage to Brenda Clark at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Watertown, South Dakota on April 8, 1978. The couple made their home in Montevideo and were blessed with two children.
Bill started working for Welkers, Inc in Montevideo following his return from the Army as a service technician. He ended his 45 year career with Bennett Office Technologies of Willmar. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, watching military movies, camping and racing, both local and NASCAR. Bill and Brenda also wintered in Arizona for a few years.
Bill is survived by his wife, Brenda; children, Beth (Justin) Smith and Jasen (Amanda) Hobbs; grandchildren, Cole (Ragan) Reitan, Alex (Rylee) Smith, Peyton Smith, Bronson Hobbs, Alice Hobbs; siblings, James Hobbs of Park River, ND, Janet (Richard) Fettig of Bismarck, ND, Barbara (Tim) Collins of Park River, ND and several nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Bickford & Eva Hobbs; brother, Duane Hobbs; mother-in-law, Edna Clark; niece, Brenda Hobbs Potter; sister-in-law, Maureen Hobbs.
