Renay Janet Mettling was born to Herbert and Janet (Strand) Eisenlohr on December 20, 1951, in Montevideo, Minnesota. She was baptized on March 26, 1952 and later confirmed in her faith on May 15, 1966, both at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Renay grew up on the family farm and graduated from Montevideo High School with the Class of 1969.
On December 27, 1969, Renay married Mark Mettling also at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. The couple made their home near Montevideo and were blessed with two wonderful children, Jeremy and Jaime; and years later four special and dear grandchildren. Renay began working at the Farmer’s Equity Elevator taking care of the books and later went to work for Prairie 5. After Renay retired, she and Mark moved to Starbuck to live on the lake which was her dream.
Renay loved life and the action that came with it. Nothing gave her more joy then to have all her “family” together, enjoying each other’s company. She enjoyed dancing. Renay loved to have coffee on her patio while taking in the view of the lake. She enjoyed playing cards, snowmobiling, fishing, gardening and baking. She was always on the look out for hummingbirds and cardinals. Renay and Mark enjoyed traveling together and took a few cruises. She will be remembered for her contagious laugh and kindness and will be deeply missed.
