Morris Delaine Doty was born on July 25, 1925, near Artesian, SD, the son of Hansel and Eva Doty. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and, following graduation from high school, he attended college at Dakota Wesleyan College in Madison, SD, where he received his degree in teaching.
Morris proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was united in marriage to Florence McCain in Pipestone, MN and taught school in both South Dakota and Iowa before settling in Clarkfield, MN where he taught English for 22 years.
