Marlys Helen Laffen was born August 19, 1937 the daughter of Jake and Verona Hauer. She grew up in Dawson and attended school there, where she graduated in 1956.
Marlys was united in marriage to Ervin Niemeyer on March 1, 1958. They resided in Dawson and eventually moved to Granite Falls.
Marlys was employed by the Granite Falls Hospital as a nurses’ aide for several years.
Marlys enjoyed many hobbies such as gardening, needlepoint, ceramics, bird watching, singing hymns, reading, camping for many years and spending time with family and friends.
Marlys passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the Granite Falls Health Care Center. She was 80 years of age.
Marlys is survived by her children Patricia (Brian) Norman of Granite Falls, James (Cherie) Niemeyer of Maynard, William (Tabby) Niemeyer of Granite Falls. Her grandchildren Jason Norman (Michelle Magnuson fiancé) of Hutchinson, Candice (Jamey) Freese of Maynard, Nicole (Mark) Schwanke of Raymond, Aleisha (Logan) Schmidt of Clara City, Andrew Niemeyer (Nicole Kleene fiancé) of Maynard and Chelsey and Ashley Niemeyer of Granite Falls. Her great-grandchildren Arianna and Tanner Freese of Maynard, Kendal Niemeyer, Owen Schwanke, Addison Schwanke and Khloe Schwanke of Raymond, Ashher Norman of Hutchinson and Lauren Schmidt of Clara City.
Marlys was preceded in death by her husband Ervin, daughter Susan and niece Debbie Gerdes.
Marlys was united in marriage to Ervin Niemeyer on March 1, 1958. They resided in Dawson and eventually moved to Granite Falls.
