Linnea Balfany, 89, of Granite Falls, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2022, at the Granite Falls Health Care Center. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Monday, August 15th from 9 to 11:00 am at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls.

Linnea Ethel Balfany was born July 25, 1933, the daughter of Sven Edwin “Ed” & Ethel (Noren) Johnson in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and grew up in the Belview area. Linnea attended country school and later graduated from Belview High School with the class of 1951.
While he was on leave from the Korean War, she was united in marriage to Chauncey Alden Balfany on February 27, 1953, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Belview. To this union five boys were born.
They lived in Cokato as Chauncey was school principal there. In 1961, the family moved to Granite Falls when Chauncey accepted a teaching position. It was there that they lived, and their family grew over the years. Linnea stayed at home and raised her boys. Linnea enjoyed sewing, knitting, teaching and playing the piano. She really loved canning with Chauncey, especially making pickles. She was known for being a meticulous bookkeeper. Linnea cherished her grandchildren and loved the time spent with them. She always was concerning herself with all the kids' lives. She loved Christmas time and always cherished time spent with her sisters and brothers families, especially getting ready to go to the lake for the 4th.
Linnea lived at the Granite Manor, recovering from a previous shoulder surgery and was hoping to go home. She suffered a broken hip and was recovering from surgery on August 6th. She passed away, resting comfortably, on Friday morning, August 12, 2022. She had many newfound friends at the Manor. She will be greatly missed.
Linnea is survived by her sons: Robert (Kathy) Balfany of Granite Falls; Todd (Lucy) Balfany of Sacred Heart; Tim (Jana) Balfany of Edina; Joel Balfany of Marshall; John (Ann) Balfany of Waconia; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren; sister Alice Zimmer of Springfield, Missouri, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Chauncey in 2016, brother Carlyle, two sisters Elaine and Vivian.
