John “Jack” Strommer was born on May 20, 1936, the son of John & Bernetta Strommer in Montevideo. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He attended the Montevideo High School.
On June 24, 1956, Jack was united in marriage to Marlys Krenz at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Jack started working for the State Highway Department. He worked in the automotive industry as a mechanic and owned and operated Jack’s Fina for many years. Jack enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family and working in his trailer parks.
Jack passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018, at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo. He was 82 years of age.
He is survived by his children: Ronald Strommer of Montevideo, Thomas Strommer of Clara City and Laura Sears of Montevideo; 9 grandchildren: Kristina Mulder, Matt (Brooke) Strommer, Crystal Strommer, Justin Strommer, Austin Strommer, Ashley (Josh) Neu, Jordan Strommer, Kyler Strommer and Jessica Sears; 10 great grandchildren: Koltin Mulder, Kylie Strommer, Adilee Neu, Honor Neu, Bella Neu, Cassaundra Strommer, Brayden Strommer, Paisley Strommer, Layla Sears and Brandon Cruse III; siblings: Bill Strommer of Montevideo, Pat Hanson of Montevideo and Nancy Thompson of South Dakota, and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marlys, son John Strommer Jr. and a brother Robert Strommer.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, June 14th at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
