Harold William Anderson was born on Feb. 1, 1942, in Clarkfield, MN, the son of Oscar G. and Garnett M. (Fruin) Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at the United Church of Christ in Granite Falls and graduated from Granite Falls High School.
On July 15, 1960, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Finnes at Rock Valle Lutheran Church. He served his country for a short time in the United States Marine Corps and received an early discharge due to an asthma condition. From 1967 to 1972, Harold was employed by Great Plains Natural Gas of Dawson-Boyd-Clarkfield as District manager. He then began his trucking career in 1973 as an independent owner/operator. This he did until 2006.
During his active years, Harold was involved in numerous civic and community organizations and activities, including the Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, the Rod & Gun Club and the Dawson Saddle Club. He was also a member of the Trucker’s Association and Dawson Fire Department. In 1970, he was the proud recipient of the Outstanding Young Men’s National Award.
Harold enjoyed square dancing, deer hunting, fishing, pheasant hunting, trail riding, going to the casino and high school basketball. He loved his family deeply and was a friend to many.
During the late night hours of Thursday Jan. 4, 2018, Harold passed peacefully while a resident of Meadow Lane Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Benson, MN. He was 75 years of age.
Surviving Harold are his son Michael of Granite Falls, MN; his brother James Anderson of Ft. Collins, CO; his sisters Judy Smith of Redwood Falls, MN and Beatrice Read of Granite Falls, MN; 9 nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law Bruce Smith.
