Eugene Keith "Gene" Meyer, 78, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Golden Living Center-Brentwood from Alzheimer's.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the Cottonwood Community Center in Cottonwood. Burial will take place in the Cottonwood Community Cemetery. Social distancing and masks are required.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 1, 2020 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM, two hours prior to the service at the Community Center.
Gene was born on September 10, 1942 in Cottonwood, Minnesota, to the late Paul and Frieda (Westerbur) Meyer. He grew up learning about farm life and fixing things from his dad. Gene loved farming, the tractors, the land and the animals. Gene and Janice met in 1966 and were married on January 28, 1967 in Sioux Center, Iowa. Gene and Janice farmed for several years near Cottonwood and then he enjoyed a long career in farm retail in Minnesota and Indiana where he stayed close to his love of the farm, retiring from Rural King in 2016.
Gene is survived by his loving wife, Janice (Olson) Meyer of Evansville, IN; daughters, Eileen Kellogg of Cooper, TX and Rhonda Simpson (Charlie) of Evansville, IN; son, Lyle Meyer (Jinger) of Liberty Hill, TX; sisters, Yvonne Meyer of Cottonwood, MN and Judy Toews (Lowell) of Ontario, Canada; brothers, Darwin Meyer (Nancy) of Cottonwood, MN, Kenneth Meyer (Elaine) of Cottonwood, MN and Larry Meyer (Barb) of Coon Rapids, MN; grandchildren, Leslie Kellogg (fiancé, Ashley), Alana Bartels (Robert), Joseph Kellogg, Adrianna Kellogg, Austin Meyer, Jessica Meyer, Drake Meyer, Daniel Simpson (Cassie) and Logan Simpson; and 4 great grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Kay Fragale.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 6100 Dutchman's Lane, Suite 401, Louisville, KY 40205.
