Elaine Monson, age 86, of Granite Falls, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at her home. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Elaine Adele Monson was born on May 18, 1937 to Emery and Agnes (Stensrud) Dagel in Minneota, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Elaine graduated from the Hanley Falls High School. She became a teacher for GED students at Minnesota West in Granite Falls and taught art in Danube, Minnesota. Her last job was teaching and facilitating activities for the Yellow Medicine County Jail inmates, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
Elaine married Gary Monson on December 28, 1955. They were blessed with six children, Debra, Christine, Laurie, Bradley, Kathleen and Andrew. Gary was her soulmate, best friend and rock. When Gary passed, life was not the same. She never got over the loss.
Elaine cherished her dear old friends. She enjoyed spending time with them and celebrating their birthdays with elaborate parties. She was a part of a book club and a bridge club. Elaine loved gardening, traveling, nature, rock collecting, creating beautiful art with her hands, antiquing, decorating her home and dressing in beautiful clothes, hats and shoes. Elaine loved and cherished her children and family; always putting them first. Being with her family is what made her happy and life worth living. Her daughter, Christine and grandson, Thomas both passed away young and unexpected, leaving a sadness that nothing could ever fill.
Elaine is survived by her children, Debra Monson of Granite Falls, Laurie (Thomas) Aus of Granite Falls, Bradley (Tracy) Monson of Granite Falls, Kathleen (James Kalb) Monson of Minnetonka, Andrew (Jennifer) Monson of Granite Falls; grandchildren, Lacey, Joseph, Daniel (Kelly), Chantal (Paul), Dustin, Jason (Rachel), Emily, Jonathan (Kyrsten), Joshua (Andi), Dane (Emily), Levi (Leighann), Cole (Mckenzie), Dylan (Elizabeth), Drew, Samantha; great-grandchildren, Connor, Owen, JoLeigh, NataLeigh, Jaxen, Madelyn, Kaelan, Reiken, Braeden, Kinnley, Harper, Lauren, Maya, Addison, Luke, Jake, Casey, Lola, Lily, Isaac, Mason, Veralyn, Kade, Maci, Lucy, Sonny, Polly; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kathy Dagel, Marilyn Appollo, John (Katie) Monson, Joann (Patrick) Ohliger, Thomas (Norma) Monson, Patricia Anderson.
Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, Emery and Agnes; husband, Gary; daughter, Christine Neiman; grandson, Thomas Neiman; siblings, Joyce Dagel, Kenneth Dagel, brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne Monson, Mark Monson, Laurie Monson.
